From Playing Fields to PlayStations: Why We Need to Get Kids Back Into Sport
There’s been a quiet but powerful shift in the way children spend their time. Across the UK, the playing field is being swapped for the gaming console, and the consequences
Foreword from the Founder of Football Supporters, Supporting Football
I founded FSSF because I believe the game of Football is more than just ninety minutes of play — it’s about communities, identity, and belonging. My love for football began at the age of twelve, when I walked up the steps of my club for the first time. The lights, the noise, the faces — it’s stayed with me for life.
In 2023, my local club, Southend United, was deducted ten points for financial irregularities. It wasn’t the owners or the Board of Directors who suffered most; it was the supporters, those people who follow their team, rain or shine.
Something had to change, so the idea behind FSSF was hatched. It became more than saving football clubs; it became about giving anyone the chance to play football and feel the mental and physical benefits, from young to old.
Football changes lives. It builds confidence, friendships, resilience, and hope. It’s an opportunity to improve everyone’s well-being, apart from the many children who are missing out because they are finding their entertainment in media and gaming consoles rather than participating in healthy activities.
Through Football Supporters, Supporting Football, we want to change that.
Individually, a small donation can feel like a ‘drop in the ocean’, but together, as a collective of supporters, we can protect our clubs, support grassroots football, and improve the well-being of hundreds of thousands of people, young and old, across the country.
It’s our chance to make a real difference, so join our movement towards a better future for clubs that struggle, encourage more people to play more football, and build better facilities for communities to thrive.
Just remember, we are Football Supporters, Supporting Football.

Football Supporters, Supporting Football, is a not-for-profit organisation driven by fans. Our mission is to provide financial support to football clubs and their communities across England and Wales.
All clubs have loyal support, but many that are outside the spotlight of the Premier League face financial hardship, along with the communities nearby.
We’re here to protect the clubs, communities, and culture we all care about, and we do this by receiving small monthly donations from like-minded supporters.

If you don’t want to select any of the listed teams, your full contribution will go into the central pool, which is then split to benefit all 96 clubs that make up League 1, League 2, the National League, the WSL (Women’s Super League) and the JD Cymru Premier League (Welsh Premier League).
“The Football Supporters, Supporting Football funding has been a godsend. We were potentially going to have to close one of our stands, as it doesn’t meet current health and safety standards. The Football Supporters, Supporting Football funding has allowed us to fix the issues, make the stand safe, and is now ready for use for the forthcoming season and beyond”
– James Pettit, Club Chairman
At Football Supporters, Supporting Football, we support people across England and Wales by funding community and club-led projects that improve access to football, improve mental health, and create lasting opportunities. With football at our core, we partner with businesses to expand our impact—using matched funding to bring vital projects to life, from fixing changing rooms to building sports facilities, that leave a lasting community legacy.
By supporting Football Supporters, Supporting Football, you’re contributing to a future where football continues to thrive at all levels, from the grassroots to the professional game, and making a real difference in the lives of players and fans alike. Our projects also include helping the communities that still exist around football clubs in England and Wales.

At its core, Football Supporters Supporting Football (FSSF) is about grassroots empowerment. The model is simple but powerful: supporters make regular donations through their chosen football club, and those funds

Women’s football in the UK has a long, complex, and often underappreciated history — but today, it stands as one of the fastest-growing movements in sport. The first recorded women’s
